How is my ID not revealed to someone with caller ID on his or her phone?

Smart-i-Tag uses a caller filter that doesn't allow the finder to see the number they are calling even if they have caller ID. Unlike other companies that may give out your name, phone # and address, none of your information is ever given out to anyone that calls or goes to our website.

How do I change my Smart-i-Tag™ contact numbers if we move, go on vacation or travel?

Go on line, click on “register you tag” when on that page click on “update” -- change your numbers 24/7/365. Unlike most competitors ID tags, you do not need to purchase new tag or sticker or pay extra to change your information, all it costs is your time to go on the website or the price of a phone call!

What should we do if we are traveling on business or pleasure?

We suggest you change the first or second number to the location where you'll be staying to your cell phone. If someone finds your lost/misplaced belonging or pet, they will be able to reach you at your location in place of home.  If you are changing the numbers to a hotel or relative, make sure to let the front desk or your relative know they may get a call from Smart-i-Tag and to you advise you if a call comes in. Don’t forget when you returned home, change your numbers back.

If my luggage already has an ID tag, why should we add a Smart-i-Tag™?

Unlike the I.D. tags of old where you wrote your name, address and phone number on the tag so, that when they are lost, you could be contacted, Smart-i-Tag acts as a go between to keep your personal information private. It is important to realize that when the original ID luggage tags were produced there was not the ability to steal your information and convert to Identity theft.  In today's environment with computers anyone can find out most anything about you with just one valid piece of information on your ID tag.  In addition, would you want a potential thief to know you'll be in Hawaii for 7 days and have access to your address while you are away from home?  Even a simple phone number allows the "bad guys" to make a call to see if anyone is home so they can go "shopping" at your expense. Last but not least, if you're on a trip and you lose your luggage in New York what good will a call to your home number do?  Travelers are excited to know that when looking in one part of the airport a finder could be close by contacting you on you cell phone.  You can feel confident when your private property has a Smart-i-tag or sticker on it; no one can view your name, address or phone number. Smart-i-Tag saves you time, expense and can reduce the worries when retrieving lost belongings in a timely way.

Why is having a Smart-i-Tag™ on my auto/house keys important?

House and car keys are one of the most lost/misplaced items, over 20 million keys were lost last year in America!  Even if you have a code on the keys to be dropped in a mailbox it takes 5-10 days to get them back to you.  Under no circumstances do you want your personal information on any type of key, Smart-i-Tag is the safe secure answer. The Center for Auto Safety (3/06) "...dealers charging consumers hundreds or even thousands of dollars to replace keys with embedded computer codes..." The Center for Auto Safety also states, "... the typical cost of replacing a single so-called smart key is more than $150 or roughly 12 times the cost of the average mechanical key. The cost rises into the thousands of dollars if the automaker or dealership replaces a vehicle's electronic control module..." (3/06) You should have a Smart-i-tag on every set of keys you own as well as on any keys used by the children.

Why do we register several contact numbers with Smart-i-Tag™?

Research shows that most finders attempt to contact the owner of a lost belonging at least once. They also tell us that if the finder is unsuccessful on the first attempt they will not call back a second or third time.  It is proven that if the finder has several ways to contact you directly your chances of recovery are increased by 85%! Smart-i-Tag

Why is the Smart-i-Tag™ better than other #800 numbers tags?

Many of the competitors tag’s require the finder to call an 800 number and leave a message of what they found and their contact number.  This presents several problems, First the finder or call center operator may make an error writing down the finder's contact information, Second, most of these services only contact you at one number, Third, the finder may not be not available at the number they provided.  Forth, Some Call Center's give the finder your personal contact information, which is not recommended by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies. Fifth, Many of the call centers are not open 24/7.
